In this era of escalating fuel prices, unheard of numbers of truck repossession and a stagnant freight base, some people just don’t get it.

Teamsters picket Washington-based trucking company
AUBURN, Wash. — Picketers are carrying Teamsters strike signs outside Oak Harbor Freight operations in the Pacific Northwest.
Oak Harbor Freight lines, with 1300 employees, of which almost half are Teamsters (550) walked yesterday after talks between management and labor came to an impasse’.
What is at issue?
Union spokesman Al Hobart says the company sought to make union members and retirees begin paying for part of their medical coverage. That benefit has been funded entirely by the trucking company.
Another example of why jobs are outsourced overseas. Hoffa and his Teamsters, and other Unions still have the mindset that companies in the 21st Century should care for and coddle their employees from the cradle to the grave and this is but another example of it.
People, that attitude went the way of the Edsel and the Studebaker!
Perhaps Oak Harbor sees this concession by it’s workers as the only way to stay in business and make a profit. That is generally the case. And the workers making union wages could certainly afford to chip in a little to offset the cost of the most expensive benefit a company can offer it’s employees.
I wonder if it has occurred to them the alternative? Unemployment compensation!
Methinks the non-union employess should have a back alley prayer meeting with the strikers and make them see the light.
Nothing good e ver comes of these silly ass strikes. Face time for the Union heads, claiming to be looking out for the interests of their members.
But do you remember last year the strike at GM by the UAW? Their demands were similar. Union workers whose wage and benefits totaled more than $75 per hour, walking the picket line because they didn’t want to give back a little to the company who allowed them so much.
Where is GM today? It seems to me they posted a quarterly loss in the billions a month or so ago and are now befor Congress asking for millions in subsidies to keep them afloat. All the while idling plants and shifting production in an effort to stay in business.
And who is the ultimate losers in these deals? The American Taxpayer. While Jimmy Hoffa sits back whining about 108 Mexican trucks and doing back room political deals, we are the ones whose taxes who will pay!
