It appears the trial of Border Patrol Agent Nicholas Corbett is in it’s final stages this afternoon in Federal Court in Tucson Arizona.
We’ll have details of the closing arguments later in the day, but from the feeds coming into MT Central, closing arguments are about what is to be expected.
Special Prosecutor and former Attorney General of Arizona Grant Woods in his closing arguments asked jurors tofind Agent Nicholas Corbett guilty of second-degree murder, manslaughter or negligent homicide. Woods told jurors also that the testimony of the three witnesses remains valid and unshaken.
The testimony of the witnesses is validated by forensic evidence that contradicts the defenses version of events.
On the defense side of the closing arguments, Defense attorney Sean Chapman told jurors in Tucson that his client must be acquitted in the fatal shooting of an illegal immigrant because of a tainted investigation. Chapman says investigators failed to collect key evidence, including gloves that Dominguez was wearing and gunshot residue from Corbett. (Well D’uh! Corbett admitted firing the gun, so what difference does a residue test do?)
Chapman, contrary to evidence presented, continues to maintain that witnesses in the case are lying.
