Bundles of marijuana were discovered by U.S. Border Patrol agents Wednesday afternoon near Escobares.

Agents from the U.S. Border Patrol seized more than two and a half tons of marijuana Wednesday. The drugs have a street value of more than $4 million.

Agents at the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station responded to suspicious activity Wednesday afternoon near Escobares in western Starr County.

When agents came upon what appeared to be a narcotics packaging operation inside a corrugated metal building, two men attempted to flee the area, but were caught.

Agents discovered several large bundles and an overwhelming marijuana odor that saturated the surrounding area. Further investigation revealed hundreds more bundles and packaging materials — grease buckets, saran wrap, lime sacks, gloves, and masks — commonly used to package marijuana.

Once weighed, the 412 bundles had a total weight of 5,680 pounds — with an estimated street value of $4.54 million.

The two men arrested near the operation were far enough away when they were caught by agents that they could not be connected to the drugs, said Dan Doty, spokesman for the Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley sector.

1.400 pound shipment of pot seized!

Editor’s Note: Business as usual and absolutely nothing to do with the cross border issue. It show ICE and CBP are on the ball as usual! Maybe it is time to decriminalize the shit and put these guys out of business. But then, that would be too simple a solution.

Two brothers from Mexico were arrested after federal agents noticed that a tractor trailer had illegally entered the United States “in an area popular with smugglers,” according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials

Feds seize tons of pot in Calexico POE

EDITORS NOTE: One might wonder why I publish the reports of these seizures on this blog as it would appear to support the critics claims of Mexican trucks being used to bring drugs into the country. To the contrary, it bolsters my arguments that the ICE and CBP agents on the southern border, the honest ones, are continuing to do their jobs with diligence and success. This seizure, being brought across on a border shuttle truck, was discovered during an inspection procedure all trucks crossing the border undergo. It was a combination of a K-9′s excellent senses, the officers alertness and the effectiveness of the GAMMA machine that provided these results. As a CBP officer, who has trucks leased to my carrier once remarked, when asked how many trailers cross with contraband, “Very few, they would be stupid to try” And that folks is the facts.

So the other blogs that pee themselves posting all these seizures, keep it up! You are only confirming the efficiency of our border security and providing more credibility to Mexico Trucker.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized 8.85 tons of marijuana from a truck from Mexico on Friday afternoon, the largest marijuana load ever to be seized at the Calexico port of entry, officials said Saturday.
