Highlights of the final DOT Office of Inspector General report on Cross Border Trucking

The final report issued by the Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General on the Mexican Cross Border Program was made public on Tuesday, and there were no surprises in the report. Once again, the Inspector General has validated all that has been reported on this site. Furthermore, the report totally debunks the inaccurate and erroneous statements made over the past two years by Jimmy Hoffa and the people at OOIDA. The report can be downloaded here for your review. It is suggested that one reads it throughly to get the full impact of the IG’s findings. Here are some ….Read More

Medical Certificates now part of CDL Process

The Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration issued a final rule that changes the way states must verify the medical certification for truckers either renewing or applying for a CDL. Phased in compliance deadlines for states, motor carriers and truckers start kicking in on Jan. 30, 2012. Once everything is up and running on the state level, truckers will be required to present either the original or a copy of the current medical examiner’s certificate. The state agency must then date stamp the certification card and return it to the trucker. The date-stamped card will be sufficient to prove medical certification ….Read More

FMCSA releases Independent Panels analysis of Mexican Cross Border Program

An independent evaluation panel’s report on the U.S.-Mexico cross-border trucking demonstration project prepared at the request of Secretary of Transportation Mary E. Peters, definitively shows that Mexican domiciled trucks can operate safely and in compliance with all US laws and USDOT regulations. The report was prepared by Mortimer L. Downey III, chairman of the board of PB Consult Inc., James T. Kolbe, senior advisor at McLarty Associates and a professor in the college of business at the University of Arizona, and Kenneth M. Mead, a special consultant at Baker Botts LLP and former inspector general of the Department of Transportation.

USDOT-OIG report NOT a condemnation of Mexican Cross Border Program nor Mexican Trucks in general

On September 24, 2008, the USDOT Office of Inspector General issued an audit report entitled REPORT ON THE SCOPE AND METHODOLOGY OF FMCSA’S REVIEW OF CANADIAN/MEXICAN COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS. Of course OOIDA jumped on this report with an article erroneously entitled Data flawed on Mexican truck safety reg compliance A glance would make you believe that Mexican trucks are not in compliance with FMCSA safety regs and this is not the case! Steve Sommers on America’s Trucking Network told his few listeners that this report PROVES that Mexican trucks are not in compliance and, by ….Read More

Proponents of Mexican Cross Border Truck Program continue to fight for what's right

The House has made it veto-proof clear: The controversial pilot program allowing big Mexican trucks to cross the U.S. border and travel into the country must end. The Senate has yet to act, though. And Mexico and its U.S. big-business allies are ramping up their efforts to block the repeal, including a renewed warning by Mexican officials to retaliate against U.S. exports if the program is abolished. So begins an excellent article on the Mexican Cross Border Program from a neutral perspective, in a story published at Politico.com And the proponents should continue to fight to keep this program which ….Read More

FMCSA Administrator John Hill rebutts the rants of Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa

We all know the controversial Mexican Cross Border Program was extended for two more years on August 8, under Federal guidelines concerning Pilot Programs, and as we reported, Jimmy Hoffa immediately showed his no class ignorance by continuing his boring mantra about those unsafe, dangerous and illegal Mexican trucks, a notion we have continually disproved on this site.

Casino Bus crashes in Mississippi and Nevada add to deadly weekend for U.S. Bus operators

So what’s going on here? Are we so fixated on legally operated, safe Mexican Cross Border trucks that we totally ignore the commercial bus industry in the United States?
