Cross Border Proposal could be signed as soon as this week!

Speaking to a group of trucking, logistics and technology industry executives at SMC3’s annual summer conference last Thursday in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator Anne S. Ferro said that new cross-border trucking program with Mexico could be in place within two months although she added she doesn’t expect a wave of Mexican trucks heading for the U.S. border. The FMCSA and it’s Mexican counterpart SCT, expects the U.S. and Mexico to agree on a final program “quite soon” and to grant authority to the first Mexican carrier in the program “sometime in August.” Sources suggest the agreement ….Read More

Teamsters President James P. Hoffa releases self serving and totally inaccurate statement on Cross Border Trucking with Mexico

Teamsters President James P. Hoffa, himself in hot water after caught using his position to offer union jobs, salaries, and pensions to bribe people for political support, released a “presser” giving his totally irrelevant and patently untrue rant in opposition to the upcoming cross border pilot program with Mexico. THE PUBLIC OPPOSES ILLEGAL, UNSAFE MEXICAN TRUCK PROGRAM is the title of this crapola presser released today which Hoffa continues to lie to his membership and the American public. Hoffa says; DOT’s proposal to open the border “fails to adequately protect our members, their families and the traveling public from the ….Read More

Comment Spammers hit FMCSA comment section on proposed Cross Border Pilot Program

Anybody been following the comments, or lack of comments over at FMCSA concerning the proposed cross border pilot program with Mexico, that would finally allow the United States to come into compliance with our obligations under NAFTA? For two weeks, comments languished at 50, including supporting documents posted on the site. Today, that jumped to 118. Not surprising in and of itself, except for one thing. THEY ALL SAY THE EXACT SAME THING That’s right kiddies. The Einsteins from OOIDA and TEAMSTERS are too damned lazy to post an original thought or comment so they are using the boilerplate provided ….Read More

Opposition to cross border program less than expected, but just as nasty

Friday, the FMCSA RELEASED CROSS-BORDER TRUCKING PILOT DETAILS and the reaction was basically “so what’s new?” except amongst the usual suspects who object to anything concerning Mexico. OOIDA Executive Vice President Todd Spencer released his usual whining rant making baseless allegations they’ve never been able to document nor prove ATA President Bill Graves issued a statement in support of the proposal. James P. Hoffa, President of the Teamsters Union who is usual first out of the box with his sophomoric rants about “unsafe” Mexican trucks and “unqualified” Mexican drivers, was suspiciously absent, however, the website, TEAMSTERS NATION chimed in with ….Read More

Mexico gets serious about cross border trucking issue

The Mexican government apparently is damned serious about trying to force the U.S. government to present it’s intentions in regards to the cross border trucking controversy. Sources close MTO have indicated that Mexico is considering rotating its list of U.S. products subject to retaliatory tariffs by early 2011 if the Obama administration fails to present a proposal for resolution of the cross border trucking provisions that would provide Mexican carriers quid pro quo access to US markets. The Mexican government will use all legal means to force the U.S. to comply with the trucking provisions of NAFTA, which the US ….Read More

Senators file bill to require EOBR's in all interstate trucks

In what can only be described as political pandering in an election year, and with the backing of a coalition of mega trucking companies, Senator Mark Pryor (D-Ar) and Lamar Alexander (R-Tn) filed a bill known as The Commercial Driver Compliance Improvement Act (S. 3884) The bill, if passed, would require universal installation of electronic on-board recording devices for commercial motor vehicles. It would force the Department of Transportation to issue regulations within 18 months of the bill’s enactment, as well as setting design and performance standards for the devices. The regulations would take effect three years after the bill becomes ….Read More

Owner Operators United President Dan Little helps debunk OOIDA misinformation and drivers misperceptions

In a recent post,  I commented on allegations made by OOU President Dan Little, accusing FMCSA of falsifying CVSA inspections records for Mexican motor carriers. Mr Little took it upon himself and his organization to respond to that post with the records of 13 “randomly” selected Mexican carriers from the FMCSA SAFERSYS database. Mr Little made these allegations about the carrier list he submitted. They are:

More misinformation about Mexican Trucks, this time from an obscure upstart organization

An excellent truckers blog, ASK THE TRUCKER, is reporting the latest challenge to allowing Mexican trucks expanded access to the United States, which is our obligation under the provisions of NAFTA. They bring up the latest questions being raised by an obscure upstart group, OWNER OPERATORS UNITED, headed by Dan Little, a frequent commenter on this site. Taking a ploy from the OOIDA playbook, which has been using unfounded accusations about Mexican trucks and drivers for 16 years, OOU has made the claim about “possible falsification of safety inspections on SafeStat in relation to Mexican trucks” In a press release ….Read More

Bus crash in Arizona that killed 6 being used to confuse the Mexican truck issue

The bus belonging to TIERRA SANTA,  that rolled over on a busy interstate outside Phoenix, killing six people and leaving 16 others injured early Friday, is now being used as an example by opponents of allowing Mexican trucks on our highways (although they’ve been here for decades) and in others are using it in their vile opposition to reforming immigration and as an opportunity to bash Mexicans. The bus, a late model Mercedes Benz Marcopolo,  was traveling from the central Mexican state of Zacatecas to Los Angeles. It entered the United States at El Paso, Texas, and was traveling westbound ….Read More
