Mexican Vaqueros process cattle on a ranch in Lasalle County Texas
Someone, acting on advice and consent from the very top, concocted a plan for Department of Homeland Security bureaucrats to entice unauthorized (illegal) immigrants to turn themselves in for self-deportation.We lost count of the number of unauthorized immigrants who thought the program was a joke, if not one dumb idea.
“Perhaps someone thought it was a good idea, but it was not. Now we know why the government stopped the whole thing,”
a visiting resident alien said.
“I’ve been around so long waiting that I think I’ll wait a little longer to get things right. It’s about the papers (los papeles). I’ve been waiting for years, spending money and paying the notarios. For what? To go back? Go back to what?”

New rules for the types of identification U.S. citizens must present to enter the country go into effect today, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said
• A U.S. passport OR
• A trusted traveler card such as NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST
Those without a passport must provide a valid driver’s license or military ID plus one of the following:
• U.S. birth certificate issued by a federal, state, provincial, county, territory or municipal authority
• U.S. Consular report of birth abroad
• U.S. Certificate of Naturalization
• U.S. Certificate of Citizenship
• U.S. Citizen Identification Card
Travelers who do not have the newly required documents may be delayed at designated border crossings, officials said. But officers at the Valley’s international bridges will have leeway to admit people who are unaware of the changes once their identities are confirmed.
Mexican citizens will continue to have to present valid passports and visas. U.S. legal residents will also still be required to show a permanent resident card or other evidence of legal residency.
Children under the age of 18 must present an official birth certificate while attempting to cross the border.
And despite what is being reported on some websites, this does not concern truckers participating in the Cross Border Program. At this time, they are not permitted FAST cards.
Entry requirements for this group will be the same as for any Mexican citizen.
And while these ridiculous rules are being put into place, those that might do the country harm are routinely being admitted through our ports and airports, with legal entrance visa’s. Go figure.
In states bordering Mexico and Canada, it is common practice for people to buy their medications in the countries with the best pricing-which is not the United States.
In my own case, even though I have USA medicare, I get almost all medical care in Mexico. However, with frequent trips back to Phoenix, I sometimes overstay my supply of prescription medications from my Mexican doctors.
I was back in Phoenix , recently, doing rehab on my wife’s rental house and maintenance on our own home. As work progressed slower than anticipated, I told mi esposa that I had to make a drug run to the border to refill one prescription. Mexican prescriptions cannot be refilled in the USA. She told me that I almost always wind up having to do the same, each time I come back to Arizona.
Transportation to the border is cheap and convenient from Phoenix and Tucson, where 75% of Arizonans live. From Phoenix, I took a $25 shuttle van direct to the border- a three hour ride. The driver’s speedometer often showed 80 mph. Contrast this with transportation up north. How far will $25 take you? Why? It has to be the competition in Phoenix, since there are many border shuttle companies.
