[UPDATED]Opposition to Cross Border Truck program has nothing to do with safety or security concerns

Trucks wait to clear US Customs. The passage of HR6630 will produce longer waits resulting in more fuel consumption and pollution at border crossingsThose who have followed the debate on the Mexican Cross Border Program, might have noticed as time passed, Todd Spencer and OOIDA for example kept changing their reasons for opposing FMCSA Cross Border Program. First it was “Safety issues”, then economic issues, both which have been debunked here and in other places.

Jimmy Hoffa continues to rant about those “dangerous and unsafe” Mexican trucks putting the American motoring public at risk, without offering one iota of proof to back up his accusations.

Even Steve Sommers on America’s Trucking Network has toned down the rhetoric, insisting his opposition to the program is from the viewpoint of American’s losing jobs, which ain’t gonna happen.

So what the truth behind the opposition? Could it be pure old “Mexican bashing”, the xenophobia  that is sweeping America, pushed in part by groups who are preying on the fear and insecurities of Americans, while putting their hands in the pockets of those who respond to their promises of ridding America of Mexicans? I think the truth lies somewhere in between.

Let’s backtrack 15 months to June 22, 2007 and an article that appeared in the Pittsburgh Tribune Review in reponse to an Editorial by Trib staff titled MEXICAN BACKFIRE Dimitri Vassilaros came across with this scathing and totally false editorial.

Support Continues to build for Mexican Cross Border Program

Support Continues to build for Mexican Cross Border Program

If the protectionists and obstructionists are successful, America's economy will be hurt and her reputation as a world leader further damaged

If the protectionists and obstructionists are successful, America’s economy will be hurt and her reputation as a world leader further damaged

The massive fraud visited upon the American public by the Teamsters and OOIDA concerning the Mexican Cross Border Pilot Program continues to make the news as more mainstream newspapers see through the campaign of misinformation and xenophobic pablum these two organizations have put forth.

Since they do not have facts to back their position, they have chosen to prey upon the ignorance and fears of Americans with stories of chaos and disaster waiting to hit America’s highways. Of course, as we have seen over the past year, it hasn’t happened, and in Mexico, highway safety concerning big rigs is much better than the US, and with less regulation.

The San Antonio Express News continues to weigh in on the subject with an editorial that goes to the heart of the matter.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator John H. Hill responds to Jimmy Hoffa

We all know the controversial Mexican Cross Border Program was extended for two more years on August 8, under Federal guidelines concerning Pilot Programs, and as we reported, Jimmy Hoffa immediately showed his no class ignorance by continuing his boring mantra about those unsafe, dangerous and illegal Mexican trucks, a notion we have continually disproved on this site.

Majority now says church should stay out of politics

A narrow majority of the public saying that churches and other houses of worship should keep out of political matters and not express their views on day-to-day social and political matters. For a decade, majorities of Americans had voiced support for religious institutions speaking out on such issues.

The new national survey by the Pew Research Center reveals that most of the reconsideration of the desirability of religious involvement in politics has occurred among conservatives. Four years ago, just 30% of conservatives believed that churches and other houses of worship should stay out of politics. Today, 50% of conservatives express this view.

Lou Dobbs for Governor: Because Nothing Says “Welcome to the Garden State” Like “Show Me Your Papers Amigo!”

Lou Dobbs for Governor: Because Nothing Says “Welcome to the Garden State” Like “Show Me Your Papers Amigo!”

Senor Lou Dobbs for New Jersey GovernorI saw this item on WorldNet Daily and thought it was some more of their silly rabble rousing alongside of such potential wet dream candidates for the right wing loons such as George Noory for President in 2012 perhaps with fellow loony tune Jeremy Corsi as his running mate.

A New Jersey newspaper reported Dobb’s refusal to comment, but one site took the ball and ran with it, attempting to assist Mr Dobbs in his quest for public office.

America’s Voice Online the voice of true Americans, established (does that word ring a bell with anyone) a website, titled DobbsforGovernor.com Good folks, America’s Voice and I am sure that Mr Dobbs appreciates it. Check out the site, it’s too cool.

Here is the press release announcing this new endeavor:

Washington, DC – According to press reports the extreme, anti-immigration CNN commentator Lou Dobbs is contemplating a run for Governor of New Jersey next year. America’s Voice has launched a new website to tell the truth about Dobbs and pundits like him, who think they can stir-up waves of anti-immigrant hysteria and ride them all the way to the statehouse, the White House, or the Governor’s mansion.

The site features our take on what a Lou Dobbs campaign platform would look like, inspired by the unrealistic and polarizing views of real Congressional candidates. Visitors are invited to submit their ideas (in English Only) for the Dobbs campaign slogan contest. The winner will receive a free t-shirt featuring his or her slogan, and activists around the country will have the opportunity to purchase the shirt online.

Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice had this to say:

“America’s Voice is happy to take this opportunity to reveal the truth about anti-immigrant, mass-deportation candidates who have stood in the way of real immigration solutions for years.

“Lou Dobbs is not a real candidate, he’s a caricature of what is wrong with the current immigration debate. He offers no real solutions to our broken immigration system, and simply uses his program to spread proven lies, stir up racial tensions and fear, and provide a platform to known hate groups.

“Though the quality of CNN’s programming would improve if Dobbs were elected, the citizens of New Jersey deserve a governor that deals in facts and real solutions. Let’s hope Dobbs remains as far away from the Governor’s mansion as he does from good journalism.

“There is no doubt in my mind that Lou Dobbs would lose a race to become Governor of one of America’s most diverse states. He would simply join the long list of desperate politicians who ran on anti-immigrant hysteria and lost.”

America’s Voice is the newly-founded communications and rapid-response arm of a reinvigorated campaign to advance immigration reform. Its goal is to build the public support and political power necessary to enact broad immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for the estimated 12 million immigrants working and living in the U.S. without legal status.

I love the campaign slogan also, which is the title to this post!

Chief Judge Alex Kozinski of 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, purveyor of Porn?

Chief Judge Alex Kozinski of 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, purveyor of Porn?

Pardon the errors folks, but I’m laughing so damn hard, I can’t type. This breaking news concerning the 9th Circuit, which has before it, the frivolous lawsuit filed by OOIDA, The Teamsters, The Sierra Club and others, over the Cross Border Program. Perhaps this is the reason OOIDA’s Fast Track has not produced a ruling.

9th Circuit Chief Justice Alex KozinskiLOS ANGELES – The chief judge of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals posted sexually explicit photos and videos on a Web site he maintained that he has now blocked to the public, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday on its Web site.

The revelation about Judge Alex Kozinski came as opening statements were under way in an obscenity trial he is presiding over in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

Kozinski, 57, told the Times that he thought the material on his Web site, which included a video of a man cavorting with a sexually aroused farm animal, couldn’t be seen by the public. He took the site down and said he didn’t believe any of the images were obscene.

“Is it prurient? I don’t know what to tell you,” he told the newspaper. “I think it’s odd and interesting. It’s part of life.”

Kozinski became the youngest federal appeals court judge in the nation when he was appointed at age 35 to the bench by former President Ronald Reagan in 1985. He is known as a strong defender of free speech and First Amendment rights.

He is currently overseeing a trial in which Los Angeles businessman Ira Isaacs is accused of breaking U.S. obscenity laws by selling pornographic movies that depict extreme fetishes. Kozinski was assigned to the case under a program in which appellate judges occasionally handle criminal trials at the district court level.

Isaacs’ defense attorney Roger Diamond said outside of court he was unaware of the Times report and declined to comment. A phone message left with a spokesman for the 9th Circuit was not immediately returned. Department of Justice spokeswoman Laura Sweeney declined comment.

Before the site was taken down, visitors to alex.kozinski.com saw a message: “Ain’t nothin’ here. Y’all best be movin’ on, compadre.” Visitors who knew about a subdirectory could see the materials that also included some of Kozinski’s legal writings and personal photos, the Times said.

Jean Rosenbluth, a former federal prosecutor and law professor at University of Southern California, said she had not seen the contents on Kozinski’s Web site but added the judge should recuse himself to ensure there is no conflict of interest.

“He should do the right thing and step down,” Rosenbluth said. “There’s such an importance that the public perceive justice be fairly administered.

Trial jurors were scheduled to travel Wednesday afternoon to the 9th Circuit’s Southern California building in suburban Pasadena to view the movies, which depict bestiality and fetishes involving feces and urine. The panel includes eight men and six women. Two will be designated alternates later in the trial.

Jurors will be asked to decide whether or not the films are obscene under federal law.

They must decide if the films appeal to a loathsome or degrading type of sexual intercourse and whether the sexual conduct is “patently offensive,” judging by the community’s standards.

Isaacs, 57, is charged with four counts, including importation or transportation of obscene material for sale. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. Prosecutors also are seeking forfeiture of assets obtained through his video sales. Two of the original six counts in his indictment were dropped.

The Ethics of Senator Byron Dorgan (D)ND

The Ethics of Senator Byron Dorgan (D)ND

Senator Byron “Dork” DorganHas anyone ever wondered why a Senator from a nowhere state like Norht Dakota, would have such a passionate opposition to a Cross Border Truck Program that will not impact his state or constituents in the least? I have. As they say, “follow the money”!

These politicians rarely do anything for the benefit of the people out of the goodness of their heart, and this arrogant little peckerwood is no exception.

So what is his price to jump on the Teamster’s bandwagon? About $35,000.00, at least!

In 2006, The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, was the ninth largest contributor to Byron Dorgan PAC, known as the Great Plains Leadership Fund, contributing $20,000.00. Before 2006, there were few donations from the Teamsters listed.

In 2008, The Teamster’s have thus far contributed $15,000.00to his Political Action Committee. All in all, not a lot of money within the scheme of things, but the question arises why would the Teamster’s even bother to contribute to a little known Senator from a very unpopulous state? The total contributions to Dorgan by the Teamsters over the course of his career has been only $46,000.00, $35,000.00 of it occurring coincidentally with the ramping of the debate over the Mexican Cross Border Program.

But it goes further than that. This little pissant isn’t lily pure and he certainly is not one to have the right to call a Cabinet Secretary “arrogant”!

Anyone remember the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal of a couple of years back? Well, apparently Senator Byron Dorgan was butthole buddies with Mr. Abramoff until he had an “epiphany”and decided he’d better rid himself of the “contributions” muy pronto.

There are related stories to Byron Dorgans activities regarding his association with Abramoff and what he did with the more than $65,000.00 he received to help Abramoff screw American Indian tribes, including the Coushattas of Louisiana and others.

Interesting reading indeed! And we have to put up with this fool for another 2 years?
