American war veterans are not happy with recent attempts to smear the Department of Veterans Affairs work helping veterans with the very sensitive issue of their living wills, and are calling on the media to quickly debunk the growing rumors. Richard Smith, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, and editor of the veterans blog VetVoice.com has taken on the fear mongering, which includes false charges that the VA has employed the use of a “Death Book” to encourage veterans to kill themselves – charges that have made their way from an op-ed from a former advisor to George W. ….Read More

Napolitano under consideration for soon vacant seat on Supreme Court

President Barack Obama is considering a mix of more than six Supreme Court candidates that is top-heavy with women and Hispanics, a group that features three judges, a governor, his homeland security secretary and his solicitor general. Among those under consideration are California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno, Solicitor General Elena Kagan, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and U.S. Appeals Court judges Sonia Sotomayor and Diane Pamela Wood. Sources familiar with Obama’s deliberations confirmed the names to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no candidates have been publicly revealed by the White House. One ….Read More

Obama Decides to violate Smoot Hawley and we will pay

I’ve written before about a dangerous provision of the Omnibus appropriations legislation now under consideration in the Senate. The bill violates the U.S. commitment under NAFTA to allow Mexican trucking companies to operate in the U.S., so long as they meet all the standards to which U.S. companies and trucks are held. If Obama signs this measure into law, Mexico will have the right to retaliate against the U.S. – presumably by restricting exports from the U.S. to Mexico. Barack Obama opposed the Mexico truck pilot program when he was in the Senate, but you might expect him to rethink ….Read More

Senate Vote on FY09 Omnibus Spending Bill delayed at least a week!

Breaking news from The Washington Times Senate Democrats beat back a series of Republican proposed changes to a $410 billion omnibus spending bill Thursday, but they couldn’t muster enough votes to block more amendments as final consideration was postponed until next week. As such, a new stopgap measure needed to keep government going. The current one expires tomorrow. The House is expected to pass another temporary spending measure Friday, followed by Senate approval, to keep the government running until Tuesday. The House passed the omnibus last week but would have to revisit the legislation if changed by the Senate. But ….Read More

Former Dalllas Mayor Ron Kirk to be Obama's pick for US Trade Representative

The choice of Ron Kirk as the nation’s top trade negotiator disappointed Barack Obama’s union supporters and left trade experts wondering Thursday how hard the president-elect will push against business interests in future deals. Mr. Kirk, the former Dallas mayor and 2002 Senate nominee, is a pro-business Democrat who has been an outspoken booster of NAFTA and the benefits of free trade. But little is known about his views on forcing trading partners to abide by tougher labor and environmental standards, as Mr. Obama promised voters in Ohio and other Rust Belt states. And it’s unclear if putting a free-trade ….Read More

Change we can live with - Cecilia Munoz named to top White House staff job

President-elect Barack Obama has named a national Latina leader to a top White House staff job. [UPDATED]Opposition to Cross Border Truck program has nothing to do with safety or security concerns

Those who have followed the debate on the Mexican Cross Border Program, might have noticed as time passed, Todd Spencer and OOIDA for example kept changing their reasons for opposing FMCSA Cross Border Program. First it was “Safety issues”, then economic issues, both which have been debunked here and in other places. Jimmy Hoffa continues to rant about those “dangerous and unsafe” Mexican trucks putting the American motoring public at risk, without offering one iota of proof to back up his accusations. Even Steve Sommers on America’s Trucking Network has toned down the rhetoric, insisting his opposition to the program ….Read More

Support Continues to build for Mexican Cross Border Program

The massive fraud visited upon the American public by the Teamsters and OOIDA concerning the Mexican Cross Border Pilot Program continues to make the news as more mainstream newspapers see through the campaign of misinformation and xenophobic pablum these two organizations have put forth. Since they do not have facts to back their position, they have chosen to prey upon the ignorance and fears of Americans with stories of chaos and disaster waiting to hit America’s highways. Of course, as we have seen over the past year, it hasn’t happened, and in Mexico, highway safety concerning big rigs is much ….Read More

FMCSA Administrator John Hill rebutts the rants of Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa

We all know the controversial Mexican Cross Border Program was extended for two more years on August 8, under Federal guidelines concerning Pilot Programs, and as we reported, Jimmy Hoffa immediately showed his no class ignorance by continuing his boring mantra about those unsafe, dangerous and illegal Mexican trucks, a notion we have continually disproved on this site.
