[UPDATED] U.S. Border Patrol officer jailed following accusations of rape

A U.S. Border Patrol officer has been jailed in lieu of $1 million this weekend after he was accused of using his job to rape a woman, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said this evening. The officer, Luis Edward Hermosillo, is assigned to the federal agency’s Indio sector. Investigators suspect there may be more victims. “The investigation is still continuing,” said Sgt. US Border Patrol agent arrested on bribery charges

FBI agents have arrested a U.S. Border Patrol agent accused of accepting $39,000 in bribes and using his personal vehicle while in uniform to drive narcotics across the U.S.-Mexico border in his patrol area. Border Patrol Agent Eric Raymond Macias, who was stationed in Deming, turned himself in to FBI agents Friday at their Las Cruces offices, the FBI said. Macias allegedly accepted $39,000 in bribes from a witness who was cooperating with investigators in exchange for helping the person smuggle what the agent believed was marijuana and cocaine through the border, according to records filed in U.S. District Court. ….Read More

A federal immigration officer from Hull, Ma. was accused today of having sex with an 11-year-old child while in Brazil to deport immigrants, taking photographs of the act. Michael Clifford, a 44-year-old immigration agent, was arrested today after a grand jury indicted him on a charge of possessing child pornography. He was ordered held without bail pending a hearing Tuesday. If convicted, he faces 15 to 30 years in jail, plus a fine of up to $250,000 and supervised release. It’s official: Border Patrol agent Nicholas Corbett won’t be tried again in an illegal immigrant’s shooting death. U.S. District Court Judge David Bury has granted a prosecution motion to dismiss second-degree murder, manslaughter and negligent homicide charges, without prejudice, meaning hey can be refiled if new evidence is developed. Two trials in 2008 ended with jurors deadlocked. The first, 10-2 for conviction, the second 11-1 for acquittal. Bury’s action last month ends criminal proceedings stemming from the Jan. 12, 2007 murder of 22-year-old Francisco Javier Dominguez Rivera of Puebla, Mexico, in Cochise County. The defense in the murder trial of Border Patrol agent Nicholas Corbett opened yesterday with testimony from a California pathologist hired by the defense. Richard Mason, forensic pathologist from Santa Cruz County, California, is the same M.E. that was used in the first trial, Mason is short, likely close to eighty years old, and wears very thick Mr. Magoo like glasses.

Border Patrol Seizures Steady

Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents made several drug seizures in the past few days, netting an estimated $5.6 million worth of illegal drugs.The latest case occurred Monday morning when agents working at the Interstate 35 checkpoint inspected the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo after a service canine alerted toward the car. Agents found 24 cellophane-wrapped bundles hidden behind the interior side panels near the back seat. Twenty-three of the bundles contained methamphetamines weighing 52.4 pounds with an estimated value of $1.6 million. The last bundle contained 2.4 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $76,800.
