Vice President Dick Cheney INDICTED!!! [Breaking News]
Nov 18, 2008 Legal Actions, Public Corruption
The indictment criticizes Cheney’s investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers. It accuses Cheney of a conflict of interest and “at least misdemeanor assaults” on detainees by working through the prison companies.
Gonzales is accused of using his position while in office to stop an investigation into abuses at the federal detention centers.
Another indictment charges state Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. with profiting from his public office by accepting honoraria from prison management companies.
The indictments were first reported by KRGV-TV.

Ex-border agent gets prison for civil rights violations
Nov 5, 2008 Legal Actions, Public Corruption
A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced a former Border Patrol agent convicted of violating the civil rights of two undocumented immigrants to one year in prison.
Santiago Perez, 28, of Edinburg, Texas, admitted as part of a guilty plea in August that he assaulted a Guatemalan and a Mexican man on separate occasions. Perez admitted to authorities that he pistol-whipped a Guatemalan man in December 2006. Perez also admitted to taking a Mexican man out to a remote South Texas ranch and holding a gun to his head, and trying to force him to admit he was a smuggler.
In addition to the one-year prison sentence, Judge Nancy F. Atlas sentenced Perez to three years of supervision. Perez has been allowed to remain out on bond until he is ordered to report to prison.
Perhaps this is the solution to the Corbett case! Indictment and prosecution for violating Francisco Rivera’s Civil Rights by murdering him in cold blood.
Anyone thinks that is appropriate, call the United States Attorney General Civil Rights Division at (202)514-3204

Murder in the Desert - World Net Daily and Jerome Corsi trying to influence Nicholas Corbett trial
Oct 28, 2008 Legal Actions, Public Corruption
It took Jerome Corsi long enough to come up with distorted “facts” concerning the Nicholas Corbett case, but in a piece erroneously titled Mexico accused of framing border agent, he seems prepared to put the case in the Court of Public opinion as he did for the case of convicted felons Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.
Nicholas Corbett is on trial on second-degree murder charges in Cochise County Superior Court in Bisbee, Ariz., in connection with the shooting Jan. 12 of Francisco Javier Dominguez Rivera, a 22-year old illegal immigrant from Mexico.
But in all fairness to Corsi, not that he deserves any, the allegations come from Brandon Judd, vice president of U.S. Border Patrol Union Local 2544, of which Nicholas Corbett is a member and who is picking up all legal expenses for the outlaw agent.
And the allegations? The Mexican Consulate is taking care of all the expenses of three Mexican witnesses to the shooting so they can remain in the U.S. to testify against Corbett. Read the rest of this entry »

Otero County NM sheriff ordered to halt illegal raids and traffic stops
Sep 23, 2008 Border News, Legal Actions
EL PASO — A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction banning Otero County NM sheriff’s deputies from making unlawful stops, intimidation and other unlawful actions targeting undocumented immigrants in Chaparral NM.
The decision was issued Friday by Chief U.S. District Judge Martha Vázquez of the New Mexico district.
The ruling was a victory for the Border Network for Human Rights represented by the Paso del Norte Civil Rights Project, which filed a lawsuit in October alleging civil rights violations committed by deputies in the semi-rural community north of El Paso. The injunction was requested in March.
“This is an important victory so the community won’t have fear,” said Martina Morales, a Southern New Mexico member of the Border Network for Human Rights. “I think it gives (residents) a lot of confidence to keep reporting abuses and what is happening in the community.”

[UPDATED}Transportes Los Norteños - Bus company faces more scrutiny after 2 accidents in 2 days
Aug 22, 2008 FMCSA, Legal Actions, truck safety
A troubled Houston bus company at the center of two accidents within two days this week has had faulty buses placed out of service 41 times since 2006 for issues such as bad tires and brake problems, records show.
Even so, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Transportes Los Norteños remains in compliance with national transportation statutes. Federal regulators said Thursday, however, that they will review the East End carrier after a harrowing accident in Dallas late Wednesday, the second involving the company in as many days.
No one was killed as the driver of a Transportes bus made a mad dash for the nearest Interstate 35 exit near the Dallas Zoo after his brakes appeared to fail, said Kimberlee Leach, spokeswoman for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.

Ex-Border Patrol Agent Admits Abusing Illegal Immigrants
Aug 19, 2008 Legal Actions

Santiago Perez admitted, in federal court in Houston, to violating the civil rights of two immigrants while working in South Texas in 2006 and 2007
Santiago Perez, of Edinburg, admitted Tuesday in federal court in Houston to both cases of violating the civil rights of the two immigrants while working as a South Texas Border Patrol agent in 2006 and 2007.
“Those who are sworn to uphold the laws are equally bound to follow them,” U.S. Attorney Don DeGabrielle said in a statement Tuesday. “An injustice has been recognized and accepted by this former agent’s admission today.”
Special agents from the Department of Homeland Security interviewed Perez a week after the 2007 incident where after picking up an illegal immigrant from Premont Police, north of the Falfurrias checkpoint, Perez drove him to a secluded area for interrogation.
