If DOT Inspectors find booze in your truck, that's racial profiling?

Not surprising, and the sad thing is, he’ll probably win. OOIDA reportsl OOIDA member sues New Mexico troopers for racial profiling Looking around the port of entry office, Curtis Blackwell noticed something common among the drivers waiting to talk to officers at the Port of Entry in Lordsburg, NM. Like him, most of the other drivers were black. Blackwell had been placed out of service for 24 hours after police found unopened beer and liquor in his truck’s tool box accessible from outside the truck. The officer accused him of being on drugs, and made him go through a series ….Read More

Mexico arrests cartel leader in Monterrey

Mexican soldiers arrested 13 alleged drug cartel members, including one man who had just arrived on a private plane to take over trafficking operations in the northern city of Monterrey, the Defense Department said. Acting on a tip, soldiers arrested Rodolfo Lopez and several others Monday after they landed at Monterrey’s international airport, the department said in a statement. Several armed men were arrested in the parking lot, where they were waiting to pick Lopez up, it added. The department said Lopez had been chosen to take over trafficking operations for the cartel in the industrial city from Hector Huerta, ….Read More

Trade dispute with Mexico a growing concern for Washington State

It doesn’t take long for shortsighted politicians to initiate a market-closing trade war. Neither does it take long for the consequences of a trade dispute to hit home. Ask Washington growers. It’s only been a few weeks since the Democrat-controlled Congress and Obama administration caved to the Teamsters union and closed the southern border to long-haul Mexican trucks. Mexico quickly retaliated with punishing tariffs on 89 U.S. products, including such Northwest exports as wine, onions, pears, potatoes and Christmas trees. The tariffs’ impact on this trade-dependent state was immediate. By Friday, Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire had seen enough. She fired ….Read More

DHS Secretary Napolitano endorses the DREAM ACT

Janet Napolitano says she supported the DREAM Act as the governor of Arizona, and she supports it now — as secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The DREAM Act is a bill that would give undocumented students who want to go to college or serve in the military opportunities to become legal U.S. residents. Napolitano was asked about the bill Wednesday during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in Washington on immigration and border enforcement. “This is one of those areas that everyone wants the immigration laws enforced, but also deal with the human issues that arise here. … ….Read More

SA Express News - A wise response to swine flu scare

I’ve stayed away from commenting on the H1N1 influenza outbreak, instead preferring to follow the news and the idiots who made a potential health crisis a cause celebre’ against immigration issues, both legal and illegal, without regard to the real reasons or causes. But fortunately, more people with common sense responded with comments overshadowing those of the nativists. Hindsight is 20/20. So it’s easy now to second-guess the school closings and other, reasonable precautionary measures taken by authorities in the United States in response to the swine flu outbreak. Why the virus has been more deadly in Mexico than elsewhere ….Read More

Revisiting some of the myths about Mexican trucks, Mexican drivers and the Cross Border programs

As the Obama administration prepares to keep their promise to fulfill our obligations under the NAFTA agreement, concerning cross border trucking with Mexico, I thought it was time to revisit some of the misinformation and distortions the opposition has used in the past and is for certain to use in the future. We’ve all grown accustomed to the lies spewing from the lips of Teamsters General President James Hoffa, “All we’re asking is that Mexican trucks and truckers meet the same standards as American trucks and drivers,” Hoffa said. He cited the requirements in the United States for commercial drivers’ ….Read More

From E-Trucker The Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee is having two public sessions to discuss guidance for implementing a new cross-border trucking program between the United States and Mexico. ALIPAC's William Gheen calls for more illegal weapons to be smuggled into Mexico

We knew ALIPAC’s “leader” William Gheen was nuts and more evidence of that emerged today. Well funded from his beg-a-thon and refreshed from a trip to Southern California where he smoozed with the likes of “Bikini Boy” Jeff Swilk cross dressing leader of the San Diego Minutemen and California nutcase and nativist Barbara Coe Gheen is now advocating that the US allow more military grade weapons to be sent to Mexico to arm the cartels there! Responding to an editorial in the San Diego Union=Tribune which states in part; This country’s demand for drugs has long been understood. But the ….Read More

I’ve been unable to connect for most of the past week and was surprised to see the numbers of our current poll. The question asked was “Should the US honor it’s word and reinstate the Mexican Cross Border Demonstration Project?” Well, apparently 85% of the respondents think we should. Not surprising since there is a rising groundswell out there to do the right thing and reinstate the damned thing. Another 18 months isn’t going to hurt anything. To hell with the egos of Todd Spencer and Jimmy Hoffa. I imagine my friends over on Kevin Rutherford’s site aren’t too happy ….Read More
