As reported, the Cadillac Escalade was traveling northbound at an excessive rate of speed when it struck a tractor trailer traveling in the same direction, in the rear.

The impact sheared the top of the Escalade killing 3 family members and sending 3, including an 8 month old baby to the local hospitals.

The driver of the 18 wheeler was not injured and according to the PFP (Federal Highway Police) was not at fault. Preliminary indications suggest excessive speed and driver fatigue were the cause of the accident.

Editors Note: I’ve traveled thousands of miles in Mexico in my personal vehicle, and I’ll admit, I have a heavy foot. I’ll set the cruise on 80 on the 4 lanes and the toll roads and cruise. But it never fails, there is always someone going a helluva lot faster than me, flashing his lights and wanting to pass. And no, it’s not the Mexican truckers. Their trucks are governed at 65-71 mph. It’s the 4 wheelers and usually, paisanos from the north, with U.S. tags on their vehicles. It amazes me we don’t see more of this on the roads in Mexico.

But I posted this to make a point. I have long mentioned the sensationlism of the Mexican media. This is an example. American newspapers and news wires would never publish such graphic images. They don’t want to offend. Here in Mexico, I think it sends a message to the public, and hopefully, the message will be understood. But anytime there is an accident involving injury, the news is there to report it. That is why I can report with confidence the scarcity of accidents involving big rigs in Mexico. And generally when one occurs, it is because of a 4 wheeler doing something stupid as is the case here.
