Injecting Racism into the Immigration Debate
Nov 27, 2007 General Interest
I was reading an excellent article today in the San Antonio Express-News entitled Games put new spin on a hot topic. This subject dealt with several people who had developed board and video games in an attempt to give people some idea of what illegal immigrants face in day to day life.
But perhaps the most popular game, is a flash based game called BORDER PATROL This is a shoot em up game where your targets are Mexicans and pregnant women. You would think that Americans would have more sense than to take to this trite crap, but no, 577,075 plays of the game would seem to show the racist nature of segments of the opposition.
The violent, vicious and mentally sick “Border Patrol Video Game” has been traced to Temecula, California located along Interstate Highway 15 and just east of the US Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. The video game that has shocked decent human beings around the globe is shown at Border Patrol Video Game. The creators of the abominable video game give their address as P.O. BOX 2267 Temecula, CA 92593-2267
The origins of the video game is no surprise to Mexican-Americans in Southern California who consider Temecula and the surrounding area to be one of the most racist regions in the state. The town began earning its ugly reputation about two years ago when Border Patrol agents of the Temecula Station started making indiscriminate roundups of the areas Mexicans. Many US citizens of Mexican descent where being routinely stopped along Interstate Highway 15 simply because of their brown skin and asked for their “papers”. A large portion of the Border Patrol agents live in Temecula and they and their families have organized as “Friends of the Border Patrol” and the “National Border Patrol Council Local 1613.”
The town also has the reputation of producing some of the most violent “skinhead gangs” in North San Diego County. Many of these wayward juvenile delinquents are the offspring of Border Patrol agents that live in Temecula. There are now many documented “hate crimes” against people of color perpetrated by these messed up kids. There is a very high probability that the Border Patrol Video Game is their creation.
There have also been a few cases of racism in the town by adults against citizens of Mexican descent.
One of these incidents occurred a few months ago to Fernando Suarez, father of a US Marine killed in Iraq. Mr. Suarez has made national news for his strong opposition to the war in Iraq. In Temecula he was treated quite disrespectfully by the town’s racists. Fernando Suarez and Consuelo Martinez were threatened with physical aggression. Mr. Suarez reports that people were yelling ‘F*CK YOU MEXICAN’, ‘YOUR SON DIED FROM STUPIDITY’. As he was being interviewed by Univision of Los Angeles, a Temecula woman resident put her hand over the camera lens and shouted ‘ENGLISH, ENGLISH, NO SPANISH HERE’. To add insult to injury Mr. Suarez was pulled over as he left the event by a town police squad car. The police officer told him to remove his ‘STOP BUSH’ placard off his car window since it could cause other motorists to be distracted! Mr. Suarez had to take the anti-war placard off under threat of arrest.
Temecula is again made news in the area. The town held a rally on August 26 at Old Town Temecula to kick off their “Private Police Force” that will make “arrests” of illegal Mexican immigrants. The Temecula website of the “Private Police Force” says that Mexican immigrants “will be handcuffed to the oak trees.” The website says not to send any donations to the “Private Police Force” but instead they should be sent to Congressman Tom Tancredo.
Is anyone surprised Tom Tancredo, the racist rabble rouser from Colorado is involved? The only one missing is Duncan Hunter of San Diego.
Already, this piece of trash video game is showing up on anti-illegal immigrant websites, websites of Minuteman factions and other white supremacist groups sites.
Why am I not surprised?
