Clarifying some misconceptions - Setting the record straight

Listening to Steve Sommers the other night, he thought he’d hit the jackpot finding this article. Border checks limited to speed traffic

Calm down people, this has absolutely nothing to do with commercial traffic crossing any of the borders. This concerns automobile and pedestrian traffic only, and I for one, am happy to see this come out of Washington.
Why you might ask? How would you like to spend two hours waiting in a line of traffic for no good reason? Or having to drive 50 miles to get to your office which is only 10 miles from your home? That is what we have here on the border.

We do not have a “national security” problem here on the border. We have families on both sides, crossing to visit, to shop, to work. Few carry contraband and those that do are usually caught. I’ve seen hand written notices in the inspection booths when crossing advising the officers to look for a specific vehicle and send to secondary if spotted. These guys have good cross border intelligence. And there really isn’t any need to run the drivers licenses of each passenger vehicles that crosses. There are cameras which take the photo of each vehicles license plates and has the information on the inspectors screen by the time the vehicle reaches the booth. They know if there is any discrepancy or reason to further inspect the traveler.
