Does this date ring a bell in anyone’s mind? Probably not, but this was the date that some was calling for massive rallies at all of the State Capitols in the nation in opposition to the Mexican Pilot Truck Program. And I remember callers to the overnight trucking shows calling in extolling the success and massive crowds at the Oklahoma City rally.

What brought this to mind was the other day, out of sheer boredom, I was listening to Dale Sommers and one of his “regular” callers was on the line, Yoda, or Rusty Wade, who generally is pretty level headed. But this time, he was spewing the same misinformation as others. You know the lines. Bald tires, drunk drivers, LFdC at 16, all things that have been disproved.

But, out of curiosity, I visited his website to see what was going on.

The website is very amateurish and cluttered, extremely difficult to navigate, but I did find these photos taken of the rally in OKC. It appears the “massive turnout” consists of maybe 25 people, mas o menos.

But what really brings this all to mind is that you are constantly hearing of the major opposition to this program. And the opponents would have you believe 90% of Americans are opposed. The reality,

I believe, is that 100% of the select few callers to radio programs such as Dave Nemo , “The Trucking Bozo” Dale Sommers , his son, Steve on ATN and Bubba Bo and others.

I say the “select few”, because try calling one of these shows with an opinion contrary to the hosts, and if the screeners allow you on the air, you are met with sarcasm and rapid dismissal. But some are able to make their opinions heard. Opinions which are contrary to these hosts we mentioned.

One such person is Mike McConnell, a conservative, no non sense host that regularly debunks all these conspiracy theories that abound. Other than trucking issues, which he tries to keep to a minimum on his shows, the biggest conspiracy that he constantly debunks is the idea of a North American Union.

It has been interesting of late as regular callers to the overnight shows have been calling Mike trying to put across the idiotic notions of the Mexican Pilot Program and Mike shoots them all down in his logical common sense manner. And of course, these callers go back to their handlers, (Steve and Bozo) whining about it.

This has degraded into a battle of words, one sided mind you, since McConnell seems to be taking the high ground and ignoring most of it. But it had been interesting. Stevie lost it on one of the shows and of course the old Bozo is certain McConnell has always has it in for him, since they can never agree. Is it any wonder that anyone with common sense and logic would disagree with Dale Sommers.

It will be interesting to see where this goes.
