What is a NAFTA Truck?
Aug 8, 2007 Opinions
Jerome Corsi on World Net Daily the right wing extremist fear mongering site, continues to accuse “NAFTA Trucks” of being largely responsible for the collapse of the I-35 bridge in Minneapolis.
But my question is, “What is a NAFTA Truck”? Is this some special rig designated under the terms of the North American Free Trade Agreement? Is it a phantom “Mexican” truck which is not allowed on the highways yet? Are is it his way of describing the approximately 700,000 U.S. registered rigs on the highways today? Certainly he can’t be talking about the Canadians now can he? After all, they don’t figure into any discussion of NAFTA and of supposed “superhighways”. And besides, Canadian trucks allowed into the United States number about the same as will the Mexican carriers when they are finally allowed in.
Or is the mention of a NAFTA Truck, just another manner in which Mr. Corsi and his followers use fear instead of fact to get their point across? I am inclined to think the latter.
The truth is, our Congressmen and Senators have chosen to earmark funds which could be used to upgrade America’s infrastructure, to pet projects which can earn them the vote. New stadiums, nature trails, grants for the study of the sex habits of a little known rodent. Stupid things! And when a tragedy such as this occurs, all the people can do is stand back and point fingers at things that have little to do with the situation. I am surprised, someone hasn’t come out and blamed the Mexicans for the bridge collapse! I imagine that is just a matter of time.

you should write the guy and ask him. I emailed him the other day about the same story, basically saying his idea was ludicrous and I got a response the next day.
