Rollye James Show - More distortions of the truth

A couple of nights ago, some moron called the Rollye James Show to report on a Mexican truck driver who had blatantly run over and killed, an infant in a stroller in Phoenix, Arizona. And of course Rollye hung on his every word, giving assurances that this would be the norm if the Mexican truck drivers were allowed in this country. The moron that called, knew all the facts. He was the expert and of course, Rollye made him feel special. The truckers name was “Lopez”, a fact purportedly reported in the newpapers and on TV.  Was “Lopez” a convenient “Mexican” surname pulled out of the air to further Rollye’s rascist agenda? Me thinks so! He is the news report from the Arizona Republic. You be the judge!

A 1 ½-year old child was killed Tuesday afternoon when a semi-truck drove up over a curb while making a turn and struck the stroller the child was in, Phoenix police said.

The incident occurred at 17th Avenue and Mountain View Road. The semi-truck was headed northbound on 17th Avenue and was in the process of turning onto Mountain View Road. The child, who was in a stroller, and her mother were on the southeast corner of the intersection, police said.

The truck’s rear wheels came up over the southeast corner curb and struck the stroller, police said.

I realize there is a lot of hate and prejudice in this subject, but what are some of the advantages of letting this go through? For Mexico and for US? I know it’s part of NAFTA, but putting all the legalities aside, why should they?

Honestly, there is not many advantages for either side when you think about it. The point of this blog, this subject, is not whether they should be allowed into the United States, but the manner the opponents of the project are going about tossing their viewpoint out to the public.

For instance, if you are going to oppose the project, come forward with reasons and facts to support your allegations. Not anecdotal evidence that has passed a hundred lips to get to your ears.

When you think about it, the only ones with the advantage will probably be the mega companies who have already invested in subsidiaries.

But what will these subsidiaries do? Since I had a truck leased to Celadon when they started the Jaguar division, let’s use them as an example.

Now, Jaguar brings the trailer to the Celadon yard in Laredo and a U.S. driver hooks to it and takes it to it’s destination, or, takes it to another terminal where it is dropped for another driver to take or a city man to deliver.

Allow the Mexican driver to take it from say, Monterrey to Indianapolis terminal, drop it, hook to a loaded trailer and return to Mexico.

Who loses? Nobody, in my opinion. The process is streamlined. Of course and American driver is out of the picture so the Celadon line haul drivers would be transitioned to an East-West routing or similar.

And would that be a bad thing? The majority of the drivers at Celadon and other companies who do business on the border, bitch about having to come to Laredo and sit for a day or two waiting on loads. Of course, there are those who spend their time across the border in the red light districts. Those would be the ones to yell the loudest.

Consider also. Opening the border does not mean 10,000 Mexican trucks will be coming across. This did not happen with the Canadians, so why should we expect it with the Mexicans?
