Mexico’s Federal Preventative Police force (PFP) shared a few interesting numbers regarding kidnapping cases handled by federal agents in the past six years.
Ages of victims:
0-15 years old: 10 percent
16-30 years old: 45 percent
31-45 years old: 26 percent
46-60 years old: 12 percent
61 or older: 7 percent
Ransom demanded, 2001-2007
$914,565,220. (U.S. dollar amount)
Ransom paid,
$51,140,651. (U.S. dollar amount)
Victims by occupation:
Student, 30 percent
Professional, 10 percent
Other, 5 percent
Animal farmer, 1 percent
Fruit and vegetable farmer, 2 percent
Housewife, 5 percent
Small businessperson, 23 percent
Worker, 13 percent
Major business owner, 11 percent

2001: 67 cases
2002: 107 cases
2003: 169 cases
2004: 200 cases
2005: 147 cases
2006: 132 cases
2007: 33 cases (as of March)
